Celebrating Community and Courage: The Grand Opening of the Tribute to Trent Skate Park

We are honored to invite the entire Strasburg community to join us on October 25th from 1 to 3 p.m. for a very special day. We are coming together to celebrate the opening of the Tribute to Trent Skate Park—a space that will forever hold the memory of Trent, a brave and spirited eight-year-old who loved skateboarding and touched many lives before losing his battle with brain cancer. This park is a tribute to his fighting spirit and a gift to every child and family in our town.

What to Expect at the Grand Opening: A Day of Art, Sport, and Community Spirit

In Trent’s memory, we’ve created a day filled with joy, creativity, and giving back. I’ll be bringing art panels from my installation at the National Building Museum—panels that celebrate the power of sport and community—which will be auctioned off through your small contributions to adorn our new local skate shop, YOBBOS.

Alongside the panels, I’m also teaming up with the National Junior Art Honor Society from Signal Knob Middle School to host a tent celebrating Red Ribbon Week, a nationally recognized anti-drug campaign. This year’s theme is “Life is a Puzzle. Solve it Drug Free.” Together, we’ll be creating a community-made piece of artwork—think of it as a collaborative mural where each person can claim a block and paint it themselves, contributing to a larger tapestry of community spirit.

But that’s not all! We’ll have bouncy houses, local vendors, a tie-dye T-shirt making station for kids, games and activities with experienced skateboarders, a live DJ playing music, a small parkour installation courtesy of American Parkour, food trucks, and ice cream vendors to enjoy.

Keep the Wheels Turning: Contribute to Our Art Donation Drive

As part of this event, I am inviting the community to join us in a special initiative. We’ll be collecting donations to help gift several of the National Building Museum art panels to a new local skate shop, continuing Trent’s legacy and beautifying a space for young skaters. Donations can be made directly at the skate shop, through my website, or at the event itself. Every contribution helps support our community, promotes sport and wellness, and keeps Trent’s legacy for the love of skateboarding and community alive.
