Discovering “Daughter of the Stars”: Celebrating Women Artists in the DMV

We’re on the cusp of something truly special. Daughter of the Stars, our eagerly anticipated group exhibition at the Melissa Ichiuji Studio Gallery, is about to open its doors on October 18th. Recently featured in The Washington Post and The Royal Examiner, this exhibition isn’t just a showcase—it’s a celebration of the vibrant, diverse voices of women artists from across the DMV area.

🌟 A Night of Art and Community

Join us on Main Street in Front Royal at 6 PM for an evening where art, community, and storytelling intertwine. Daughter of the Stars is the largest survey exhibition of its kind, putting a spotlight on the incredible talent and narratives of women artists in our region. You’ll find a collection of works that delve into themes of heritage, identity, and the layered stories that shape us.

🤳 A Personal Highlight: “Grandma’s Counter”

POV: you just stretched a massive painting and you’re thanking your lucky stars that it fits in your mom van.

I’m honored to have five of my paintings featured in the show, including Grandma’s Counter, a 195 x 170 cm oil on canvas that’s close to my heart. While you can get a sneak peek here, it’s a piece that truly comes alive in person, with layers of memory and emotion woven into every brushstroke.

Artist Talk: A Conversation with Kristin Fiorvanti

🗓️ Date: Sunday, November 9, 1:00 PM

📍 Location: Melissa Ichiuji Studio Gallery

I’m delighted to invite you to my artist talk on November 9 at 1 PM as part of the Daughter of the Stars programming. In this session, I’ll share the stories behind my featured works, including how personal memories, family archives, and everyday symbols find their way onto the canvas. We’ll dive into my process of blending classical painting techniques with contemporary themes, and I’ll answer any questions you have about navigating the art world as both an artist and educator. Click below to add it to your calendar!

It’s a wonderful opportunity for a deeper, more personal conversation, and I’d love to see you there! Check out these BTS photos from an artist talk with Keith Patterson at Melissa Ichiuji Studio Gallery last month.

💌 Come Be Part of the Celebration

We invite you to join us for an evening of art and connection. Let’s celebrate the remarkable women artists who are transforming our local art scene and find inspiration in the stories they share.

🎬 That’s Not a Wrap!

From October through December, the gallery will host film nights featuring trailblazing women such as Sally Mann, Agnes Varda, Yayoi Kusama, and Aretha Franklin; community discussions; and creative workshops in tarot, collage, mixology, and more.
